Animal Outreach’s Mission:
The mission of Animal Outreach, Inc. is to help end pet overpopulation by encouraging responsible pet ownership; promoting spay/neuter programs; and uniting the efforts of rescue groups, animal control agencies, traditional shelters, veterinarians and other concerned individuals.

With the ringing in of a new year comes many New Year’s resolutions.  Many people will commit to diets and exercise.  While others will give up a vice.  This year I say forget about all the resolutions with one exception… giving back. 

Giving back can take on many forms.  Donations of money and time seem to be the easiest.  This year consider the many volunteer opportunities at your local shelters and rescues including fostering or adopting an animal in need.  If your time is limited, don’t worry, just take 10 minutes and mail a check to a deserving non-profit organization.  

Giving back will make you feel good about yourself and it will truly be appreciated by the shelter or rescue that you choose.

In 2008 The Recycled Retriever blog featured several shelters and rescues.  We’ll continue to do so in 2009.  If you are looking for an organization to help, start by checking out our blog archive “Helping Dogs & Cats”. Make sure that you research each organization and feel comfortable with the management and care given to the animals.

The Recycled Retriever is dedicated to bringing quality resources to the community. There are many hardworking animal shelters who are working everyday to find homes for loving and deserving dogs and cats. It is with pleasure that we introduce you to Second Chance Humane Society.

In Their Own Words:
Second Chance Human Societyis a 501c3 non-profit all volunteer organization created to help the many abandoned pets (primarily dogs and cats) in our area find shelter and new forever homes. Most of our animals have been found by good Samaritans who bring them to us, or from pet owners who need to surrender their pets for various reasons.

Each animal in our care receives thorough vet examinations and any vet services needed to ensure good health. Each is also evaluated for temperament to help us determine the best possible home situation and if any behavior modification and/or training is needed prior to adoption.

Currently using a foster care system, New Beginnings Animal Shelter’s goal is to build a shelter. They receive no government funding, therefore, they desperately need private donations. If you are looking for a good cause to support please consider NBAS.

NBAS Purpose
To rescue, rehabilitate and place domestic animals into stable homes. To educate the public about the responsibilities of pet ownership in an attempt to alleviate the problem of unwanted pets and to build awareness about the human-animal bond and its benefits to society.

Immediate Need
Shiloh and Shyann need a foster home. NBAS works within a foster care systems so after being rescued from a kill shelter, Shiloh and Shyann need a home. Both siblings have been spay/neutered and are up to date on shots and are heartworm free. If you are interested in helping NBAS with Shiloh and Shyann please contact Barb at barb@newbeginningsas.org.
