Provincetown’s Pilgrim Bark Park is Open
I’m back from a recent trip to Provincetown, Massachusetts and was impressed that their dog park is open. Last September when I was there they had the site staked out, but was still raising money for the park. A few short months later the almost one acre dog park is open in impressive style.
In Pilgrim Dog Bark Park’s own words from their website…
Vision: To create a dog park where dogs can run free and socialize. A park to promote animal welfare. A park that is environmentally-conscious, provides a venue for the arts and is a welcoming community space for all of our residents and visitors.
History:It is recorded that in addition to the Pilgrims, there were two dongs, an English Mastiff and English Springer Spaniel, that landed on the shores of the new world in 1620. Although there may have been other pets abroad the Mayflower during her historic voyage, they are not mentioned. We have names our dog park, Pilgrim Bark Park, to remember those first canine explorers of Cape Cod.

Recently, Provincetown’s off leash rights to our town beaches and trails were reinstated. Because after over two years, there has not be a case reported of rabies. Also, Provincetown passed the ‘doggie dining’ laws last fall which allows dogs to be in patio areas of restaurants. Provincetown is truly the dog friendliest place on the east coast!
