Meet Eco-friendly Recycled Retriever Stella!

Don’t be fooled by this picture where Stella with Lenny the Lizard appears to be sleeping on a bed of clouds.  She is a spunky toy poodle puppy!  Many say she has a heart of gold, but at the Recycled Retriever we like to think that she has a heart of green.  She’s truly one of the most Eco-friendly dogs that we have met.  Thanks Stella!

Find your special valentine at the 4th annual Valentine Pet Adoption Benefit.  The event will feature cats and dogs that need a good home.  You’ll see many great animals from several area rescues and shelters.  In addition, the event will feature several vendors offering valentine treats and pet food samples.  There also will be vendors with information about doggy day care, grooming, pet waste cleanup, training and general pet care.

With the ringing in of a new year comes many New Year’s resolutions.  Many people will commit to diets and exercise.  While others will give up a vice.  This year I say forget about all the resolutions with one exception… giving back. 

Giving back can take on many forms.  Donations of money and time seem to be the easiest.  This year consider the many volunteer opportunities at your local shelters and rescues including fostering or adopting an animal in need.  If your time is limited, don’t worry, just take 10 minutes and mail a check to a deserving non-profit organization.  

Giving back will make you feel good about yourself and it will truly be appreciated by the shelter or rescue that you choose.

In 2008 The Recycled Retriever blog featured several shelters and rescues.  We’ll continue to do so in 2009.  If you are looking for an organization to help, start by checking out our blog archive “Helping Dogs & Cats”. Make sure that you research each organization and feel comfortable with the management and care given to the animals.

Meet Eco-friendly Recycled Retriever Oscar!

Oscar and his brother Maxwell are rescue cats from Cozy Cat Cottage in Powell, Ohio.  This picture captures the regal beauty that Oscar has naturally.  He’s featured here with our “Fish for Cats” toy.  Oscar could be the “poster cat” for all the fantastic animals that are awaiting adoption in your local shelters.  Thanks for continuing to support your favorite rescues and shelters!

The Recycled Retriever is going on the road again.  Our first event in 2009 will be in Erie, Pennsylvania with the Erie Kennel Club.  The Erie dog show is expecting 1200 dogs each day for the two-day event as show dogs and professional handlers warm up for the premier Westminster Kennel Club event at Madison Square Gardens in New York City.  The Erie show is just two weeks before the New York event and the Erie Kennel Club organizers are staging the Erie show as one of stops on the way to Westminster.  Best of luck to everyone!

Meet Eco-friendly Recycled Retriever Arnold!

At the end of December The Recycled Retriever added a new member to it’s staff!  We welcomed Arnold as our newest product tester.  He has done an amazing job so far.  Here he is pictured with our tan Eco-friendly Polar Fleece Blanket and Naru the Monkey.  We’re very happy to have Arnold as part of our family.

I begin 2009 by looking back on all of Recycled Retrievers of the Week.  We received dozens of great photos in 2008.  Thanks to everyone who took that time to share your pets with us.  It was truly and honor for us to receive such a great response to our pet gallery.
