Shelter Spotlight January 2010

In 2010 The Recycled Retriever will spotlight organizations and people that are doing good on behalf of the animals that we love.  Each month we’ll share with you a shelter that is doing good! In addition we encourage you to share your personal stories with us.  Thank you in advance for helping encourage awareness.

To kick off our Shelter Spotlight series, we wanted to start with a personal story about Abbie, our Lab-mix, who was our inspiration for The Recycled Retriever.  Abbie’s life started out in a cardboard box that was left in a grocery store parking lot.  She and a couple litter mates ended up in a new home at the Capital Area Humane Society in Columbus, Ohio.  It was there where we were introduced to “Bette” a.k.a. Abbie.  Immediately we fell in love with her.  We had no plans to adopt a dog that day! While not recommend for all households this plan… well lack of plan… worked out for us. After filling out all the paperwork and getting approved we left, Abbie in hand, to purchase all the needed (and some not needed) supplies for a new puppy.

The experience at The Capital Area Humane Society was an awesome one. They were very thoughtful and provided a great temporary home for a lot of dogs and cats awaiting someone to arrive and provide a permanent home.

Abbie March 2001: The day we brought her home from the Capital Area Humane Society

Abbie has now been a part of our family for almost nine years.  She is loyal friend with compassionate eyes that make us feel secure even when life deals out it’s hard knocks, as life is known to do. It was Abbie who provided the inspiration to start The Recycled Retriever and it was her silhouette as a Lab-mix puppy that is the cornerstone of The Recycled Retriever logo.

Abbie Spring 2009: Almost 9 years later and we can’t imagine our life without her.

To Abbie we say we love you.  To the Capital Area Humane Society we say thank you and keep up the good work! To adopt a dog or cat that is looking for a home or to donate your time or money, please contact the Capital Area Humane Society.

    Halloween Pet Parade for

    The Capital Area Humane Society

The Recycled Retriever would like to thank everyone that came out to the Halloween Pet Parade.  The event was a benefit for the Capital Area Humane Society and several hundred people came to the event.  There were dogs, cats and a goat!  There were some great costumes and everyone had a good time.

We were very busy at our booth and I did not manage to get many pictures of the pets in costume.  However, I wanted to share the pictures that I did take.  Enjoy!
